How to connect the STN Full-Text Solution with corporate FIZ AutoDoc Solutions

Background:

The STN Full-Text Solution provides a "Full-Text" button for almost every bibliographic or patent record available via STN. CAS Full Text Options (CAS FTO) - the software platform used for the STN Full-Text Solution - provide access to various full-text resources, available for that specific STN record.

While other CAS FTO resources depend on the availability of the publisher, aggregator, journal etc., the "Order Document" option is always available (by default). This "Order Document" option will create a full-text order via FIZ AutoDoc, FIZ Karlsruhe's broker service for document delivery.

However, if you click "Order Document" after having performed an STN Search or after calling up the STN Full-Text Solution offline from a transcript...

  1. the billing of this document order will be done using your STN account i.e. the account of the STN Login ID which was used to run the search.
  2. In case your organization is using IP Address Authorization to STN (e.g. for STN Easy for Intranets), the billing of this document order will be done under the billing address of the IP Account.

In both cases you or your organization´s users are not able to change to a different billing address. This might create problems.

Solution:

If the FIZ AutoDoc Order should be billed under a different billing address, e.g. the address of a specific user, the solution described below has to be implemented.

How to direct full-text orders from CAS Full Text Options to FIZ AutoDoc using the "Your organization's document resources" option

CAS FTO offers the possibilty to establish a Web-Import interface to in-house systems using the "Your organization´s document resources" option. This feature allows to import bibliographic data of a literature reference or a patent record on STN into a FIZ AutoDoc session (using FIZ AutoDoc ID or STN ID). As a result, users can order their documents conveniently by specifying the desired delivery options.

This Web-Import interface offers the following advantages:

  • Integration of orders from STN records into corporate FIZ AutoDoc solutions.
  • Import of bibliographic data of a literature reference or a patent record on STN into a FIZ AutoDoc session (using FIZ AutoDoc ID or STN ID), resulting in an already filled out order page for convenient ordering.
  • Billing address for full-text orders may differ from the STN account used for the search.
  • Billing address for full-text orders may differ from the account with IP Address Authentication to STN (e.g. STN Easy for Intranets).
  • Administrators might order separate FIZ AutoDoc Login IDs for their users or usergroups (e.g. STN Easy for Intranets workgroups) at http://www.stn-international.com/fileadmin/be_user/AUTODOC/PDF/licautoe.pdf and might specify default delivery addresses and cost centers for these IDs (changeable or revisable by the users).
  • Users might track the status of their orders via the "History" option from the FIZ AutoDoc main menu at any time.

As STN Full-Text Solution Administrator follow these steps to direct CAS FTO In-house Library Linking to FIZ AutoDoc:

Once you are set up as STN Full-Text Solution Administrator, access the suite of STN Site Administration Tools at the URL: https://www.stn-international.org/sat/.

Enter your STN Site Administrator LoginID and Password provided by FIZ Karlsruhe Customer Service in the box on the left navigation frame and click the Login-button.

The first navigation menu displays all STN SAT Tools which can be used. Select the "STN Full-Text Solution" option.

The navigation menu displays all features which can be administrated. Select "Full Text Options".

In case you exclusively want to customize the CAS FTO In-house Library Linking to direct users to your corporate FIZ AutoDoc solution, disable all other options except of ‚In-House Library Linking' with help of the ‚Enable'/‚Disable' toggle-button in the "Change Status" column on the right. Make sure that the "Order Document" option is disabled in any case.

Then select "In-house Library Linking" from the navigation menu. Now you can customize your in-house linking information.

  • For import of bibliographic data of a literature reference on STN into FIZ AutoDoc:
    • enter a text in the ‚Link Text' box, e.g. ‚Order Journal Full-Texts via FIZ AutoDoc'
    • make sure that ‚OpenURL 1.0' is activated
    • click ‚Update' and Save!
  • For import of data from a patent record on STN into FIZ AutoDoc:
    • enter a text in the ‚Link Text' box, e.g. ‚Order Patent Full-Texts via FIZ AutoDoc'
    • click ‚Update' and Save!

How users are directed via CAS FTO In-house Library Linking to FIZ AutoDoc:

After you have updated the In-house linking preferences as Site Administrator, users of the administrated account will see the following screen when calling up CAS FTO after an STN search or from an STN offline transcript. (Example: All Full-Text options except of ‚In-House Library Linking' have been disabled.)

Clicking the In-house link "Order Journal Full-Texts via FIZ AutoDoc" calls up your corporate FIZ AutoDoc solution. The users must enter their Login ID (STN Login ID or FIZ AutoDoc Login ID) and Password.

After logging in to FIZ AutoDoc, a filled out order page is displayed and users might order their documents as usual:

  1. Check the imported bibliographic (or patent data).
  2. Select delivery format and delivery speed.
  3. Optionally enter a text for their own purpose, additional information for the supplier, a Customer Reference Number or a Cost Center, and check the notification e-mail option.

(Example: FIZ AutoDoc Session after logging in with FIZ AutoDoc ID.)

Please note: If you have setup a delivery address and a Cost Center for your end users, be aware that users might change them temporarily or update them permanently via the "User Settings" options.

Users might track the status of their order at any time via the "History" option after logging in to FIZ AutoDoc or via the linked order number in the notification e-mail without loggin in.
